You may live and work in Scottsdale or Phoenix, but there are so many other amazing areas in Arizona to explore. Do you need to escape the fast-paced lifestyle of the city and its overwhelming desert heat? Perhaps it’s time to consider purchasing a vacation home in Arizona in order to achieve some much needed rest and relaxation. Although Arizona is known for its desert landscape, if you drive a few hours north, you can encounter a completely different atmosphere. Located a few hours north of Phoenix, Flagstaff is located in the midst of the world’s biggest ponderosa pine forest. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, Flagstaff’s climate is dramatically colder than that of Phoenix. Flagstaff is a wonderful place for a vacation home, so let’s take a look at a few of the fantastic things this town has to offer:
The Arizona Snowbowl
With an elevation of 11,500 feet, the Arizona Snowbowl offers a welcome respite from the sweltering desert summers. From December to April, this area features some fantastic skiing and snowboarding for the more adventurous types. In the summer, you can ride the chairlifts to the top of Agassiz Peak for some truly phenomenal views.
Visit The Grand Canyon
Not too far from Flagstaff is the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, which beholds a truly spectacular sight to see. Open year round, the Grand Canyon features a variety of outdoors activities for your enjoyment. You can tour the canyon on foot, by horseback, by bus, on a plane, or even on a helicopter. The Grand Canyon also holds a variety of trails for both hiking and mountain biking.
The Lowell Observatory
Located on top of a mesa overlooking downtown Flagstaff, the Lowell Observatory is a truly fascinating place. The Lowell Observatory’s claim to fame is that scientists discovered the planet Pluto here. A popular site to visit, over 70,000 people a year visit this institution for its exhibits, tours, and telescope viewings.
The Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course
If you love a great outdoors adventure, then this is the place for you. Not only does this course offer zip lines for your pleasure, but it also features 17 different obstacle courses high in the trees. The obstacle courses feature rope swings, hanging nets, wobbly bridges, scrambling walls, and other fun surprises for the entire family.
Home to Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff features a variety of festivals for the enjoyment of students and non students alike. Some festival favorites include the Pickin’ in the Pines Bluegrass & Acoustic Music Festival and the Dew Downtown Urban Ski and Snowboard Festival.
Would you rather not go mountain biking in the Grand Canyon, skiing in the Arizona Snowbowl, or traverse the obstacle courses at the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course? That’s okay, because this college town features a fun nightlife scene to indulge upon. Flagstaff features a variety of beloved breweries to quench your thirst as well as some other fun watering holes.
